We Have Officially Transitioned to the Kiddie Pool
Yesterday, I rolled up into our garage to find Spencer and Eva packing up to head to our neighborhood pool. It just opened last week and it would be the first trip there- and Eva's first trip to a body of water besides her nightly bath. Originally, I had big plans to go to yoga, but those plans went right out the window when I saw the fun they were about to have without me. I raced in, changed, and in a few minutes we found ourselves in a whole new world...the kiddie pool.
First and foremost let me say, we are spoiled with our neighborhood pool. Our community was originally designed to be a luxury home community, and the clubhouse/pool was built first with that in mind. Then the recession hit. So while phase 1 houses are gorgeous custom-builds, phases 2 and 3 are the rest of us riff-raff. Anyway, our pool is that of dreams. The adult pool is Olympic size and the kiddie pool is also massive with zero entry (complete with a splash pad), buckets of water overfilling and pouring into the pool, and a water slide that makes me want to push a toddler out of my way so I can slide down it.
However, I'm not too blind to know that water in that pool is full of urine and pooh particles. I mean my kid wore a diaper in there, and she is not potty trained. The gross factor is not lost on me.
We were thrilled to bring Eva into the pool - she was not so thrilled at first. The sounds of the buckets of water pouring scared her, the water was cold (well, colder than a bath), and she was slathered in sunscreen. As soon as her toes were in she started to cry. Eventually, though, she got used to it and seemed to enjoy it....for about 10 minutes.
Spencer and i dried off and dried her off and as she was thrashing around (clearly tired at this point) I looked over my shoulder longingly....missing the days of the adult pool. You don't know what you have until it's gone, I guess.
Eva eventually fell asleep in her car seat/carrier. We made sure she was shaded and decided to soak up some sun for ourselves- of course we were still in the lounge chairs surrounding the kiddie pool. As we sat there Spencer nudges me and tells me there's a beer in the diaper bag. We cracked it open and split it while soaking in the sun with our sleeping baby in front of us, and other people's kids splashing like crazy.
Our lives have definitely changed. I used to breathe a sigh of relief during adult swim time at the pool, but now the screams, splashes, and cries don't really phase me anymore.
Ask me again in a few years when shes yelling "MOMMY WATCH THIS" every 5 seconds, though.
