The Fixers

My nephew is obsessed with the movie Wreck-It Ralph. I think I have watched it a total of 642 times this off season. It's a great movie for those of you who have not seen it. Very cute.

No, I'm not a spokesperson for Disney. I'm going somewhere.

In the story, Ralph is in a video game called "Fix-It Felix" where Ralph wrecks a building and the goal of the arcade game is for Felix to fix the building before Ralph can do so much damage in a certain amount of time.

This makes me think of men. Who are fixers by nature. And my Gosh it can be infuriating. It's anything really, even things he shouldn't try to fix. Oh, I'm having an argument with my mom?

Spencer is all:

And I'm all:

Okay, he hasn't tried to fix any arguments between me and my mom.....yet. That's just an example. Why is it that men try to fix everything even when they have no business in it? I know that, to some women (who play up the whole damsel in distress thing) this is great- but to a girl who tries independent to a point where its obnoxious, the fixing feels insulting and overbearing.

So I go all Wreck-It Ralph on him and start breaking things. Haha kidding, but I feel like I want to sometimes.

So to all the fixers out there (most of you) I want to give a voice to your independent women (yes, Beyonce is playing in my head right now):

We love it when you fix the sink - and we especially love it when you put your hand down the disposable drain to get whatever is stuck in there simply so we don't have to
When you take out the garbage it's probably the best thing in the world
Thanks so much for scraping the ice/snow/frost off our cars, and bonus points if you start our car for us so we don't have to be cold
That dinner you made, that was exactly within the means of our ridiculous diet du-jour, was awesome.
We love it when you look under the hood of our cars, even if your only advice is "yup, better call Toyota and get this looked at"
The best part about you? You're dependable, we know we will never have to be stranded with a flat tire in the rain because you'll drop what you're doing to fix it for us.

Thanks for doing those little things that show you love us, but the big things? Let us give it a try first. 9 times out of 10 we will ask for help if we want it/need it. You'll look even greater because you let us come to you and you believed that we could handle it on our own (or at least you'll look like you believed it....don't tell us if you doubted us for a second).

We can find a compromise with all the fixing. We may even get to ride off to Sugar Rush together, I could get down with some of those candy trees they have growing there....(seriously. watch the movie, it's great).
